Dear Library Advocate,

The Legislature is expected to return to the state Capitol  on Monday, November 29th to address some unfinished business, among which are passing the Education, Labor and Family Assistance (ELFA) Article VII bill that will allow the distribution of supplemental system aid and continue to allow the state Education Commissioner to grant waivers from local maintenance of effort requirement (that if not allowed could result in 25% reductions in state aid).   The Legislature is also expected to pass legislation accepting and distributing the additional  federal stimulus funds  to school districts.

An updated letter is now on our Online Advocacy Center for you to send to your state legislator reminding them to pass the above legislation.

Once again, we will be promoting Library Snapshot Day during the week of Feb. 13th – 19th , where we ask all types of libraries to gather statistics, testimonials and photos from library users during that week and post them on the www.protectnylibraries.org website.  The information gathered will be used for both state and local advocacy efforts.

Also Library Advocacy Day is scheduled for Tuesday, March 1st.
